Just a short post to jumpstart this site.
I came across the issue when working on WP_GeoMeta, which I hope to get to beta status soon. The plugin creates some spatial tables and adds indexes to them. It works on initial creation, but subsequent calls to dbDelta cause additional spatial indexes to get called.
In real life this probably isn’t a big problem since the plugin won’t be re-activated that often. In testing though, I repeatedly hit the max number of indexes a table could have.
The changes to dbDelta won’t help anyone at the moment, but getting them into trunk now will make a big difference later.
In other news…things are gearing up here at Cimbura.com in regards to WordPress and GIS. Another GIS developer recently joined the team and we’re working on several neat GIS/WordPress projects besides WP_GeoMeta.
Once we get just a bit more technical groundwork laid we’ll start working on building up the community.
On this site we’re going to have good stuff like:
- Technical Documentation for MySQL, WordPress and GIS subjects
- Best practices
- Links and info about good spatial WordPress plugins
Hopefully it can serve as a central gathering place for the intersection between the WordPress and Spatial communities.
